The match against Granada marked Sergio Ramos' 25th appearance in the First Division and he marked the occasion with a strike against the Southern side. The defender made his debut in the top Spanish category with Sevilla on 1 February 2004 in a 1-0 against Deportivo at Riazor in the 2003/04 season and has spent most of his career in the elite at Real Madrid. He is currently the latter team's second captain and has only missed one encounter in the present season.
Ramos was 17 years old when he made his debut and signed for Real Madrid after having a full season with Sevilla's first team, playing 39 encounters in the First Division.

He made his Real Madrid debut on 10 September 2005 in a 3-2 home defeat against Celta Vigo. He made his 100th appearance in La Liga against his former side in 2007, and his 200th against Osasuna in May 2010.

Ramos has tallied 28 goals in the First Division (26 as a Madridista). He scored his first in Sevilla's 2-1 win over Real Sociedad in September 2004.
